Playing BlockZap
When can I play BlockZap?
We have not set a release date. BlockZap is still in development, and we would rather ship it right than announce a date we then have to move. Join the waitlist and you will hear before we announce anything publicly.
What platforms will BlockZap be on?
iOS and Android at launch. We are not planning other platforms right now.
Do I run out of lives?
Yes. BlockZap uses lives that refill over time, so a bad run costs you one. If you would rather not wait, you can buy more.
Can I test an early build?
Eventually, yes. When we are ready for outside playtesting we will invite people from the waitlist first.
Ads and purchases
How much does BlockZap cost?
It is free to play, supported by ads. Removing the ads costs $4.99 once and is permanent, not a subscription. Separately, there are optional boosters and extra lives for players who want them. None of it is required to play.
Can I get rid of the ads?
Yes, and permanently. Most mobile games make ad-free either impossible or a recurring charge. We think that is the wrong way round, so removing ads costs $4.99 once and stays gone. Buying it does not change anything else about the game.
Can people pay to win?
Not on the leaderboard. Boosters and extra lives help in normal play, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. Ranked runs are a separate mode where nothing is for sale, so a place on the board is earned rather than bought.
Parents and younger players
Is there a version for younger players?
Yes. Kids Mode turns off purchases and the leaderboard, and there are no names or messages of any kind inside it. Ads still appear, because they are what keeps the game free, but they are limited to age-appropriate content. A parent turns Kids Mode on and it stays on.
What ads will my child see?
Age-appropriate ones, and never targeted. BlockZap asks for an age on first run, and for anyone under 13 we switch off interest-based advertising entirely and cap ad content at the general-audience rating. That means the ad is chosen by where it is shown rather than by anything about the person seeing it.
Can other players contact my child?
There is no chat or messaging in BlockZap, and no way for one player to send anything to another. In Kids Mode the leaderboard and player names are switched off entirely.
Can my child spend money by accident?
Not in Kids Mode, where purchases are switched off completely. Outside it, purchases go through the normal App Store and Google Play flow, and both let you require a password or Face ID for every purchase. We would encourage you to turn that on whatever games your children play.
The studio
Who is Yippee Studio?
Two people, married. We started the studio in 2026. BlockZap is our first game, and our own kids play it.
Can I suggest something?
Please do. The roadmap page has a suggestion box, and it goes straight to the two of us rather than into a queue. What we hear there genuinely decides what gets built next.
Are you hiring?
Not right now. We are two people and we are keeping it that way while we finish our first game. If that changes we will post about it here.
What will you email me if I join the waitlist?
Only news about BlockZap: playtest invitations and the launch. We do not sell or share your address, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
